There are two event categories in marching band: football games and contests. Both are long days (especially for students), but SO FUN.!! We are looking forward to kicking off our very first football game of the season Friday! Read on to see an overview of what you can expect at each event, packing tips for your marcher, contest 101 info,, and more!
Mr. Thornbury's emails are ALWAYS the final say in scheduling, so continue to check your inbox for student schedules and the band website for information as it becomes available.
Contest 101: Ever wonder what the difference is between ISSMA and BOA? What does a marching contest look like? What is the difference between regionals and semi-state? What is contest etiquette? These questions and many more will be answered at our Contest 101 on Sept. 5th at 6:30 pm in the band room.

Football Games
The Marching Millers perform at most home football games. Students do not go home before the game, so they will need to pack everything and bring it all to school on the day of the game. The band will not perform at the final home game of the season on October 18th since we will be performing at BOA super regionals at Lucas Oil that evening!
The boosters feed the band at each home football game. Menu for this week listed below! Vegetarian options are available on request. Your student is always welcome to bring their own meal and snacks as well.
Friday's menu: subs, fruit, veggies/salad, chips, cupcakes, drinks
Tailgate Time!
Thanks to some very hard-working parents, we are the envy of the Tailgate Town! Stop by the Noblesville Band tailgate trailer for some fabulous pre-game tailgating food! Tailgating is in the south parking lot. Follow the yummy smells to the Noblesville Band tent and trailer for a chance to band together with the friends and family of our marchers! Watch for a poll on the Band App before each game to RSVP. These meals are can't miss!
Coming to the game? Here are some need to knows:
The band troops in from the band room before the football game begins (from the east).
The band sits in the end zone by the student section.
The band plays pregame, throughout the game and at halftime.
Parents tailgate (with an AMAZING food truck) in Tailgate Town!
Contests 2024
We are eagerly awaiting contest season!
For any contest, students should plan for a full day of rehearsal/competition. Typically students arrive at school for a pre-contest rehearsal, eat lunch (from home or sectional parent), get dressed and travel to the contest site. They are long days, but full of energy and excitement! Parents, for planning purposes, we typically perform in the evening and a full contest schedule usually comes via email from Mr. Thornbury the week of the contest. As soon as we have specific information regarding performance time, full contest schedule, parking details and ticket info we will post on the Band app and Facebook.
Packing Reminders for games/competitions (band/percussion only)
Students are responsible to bring the following to each football game/competition::
Black shorts
Black compression shirt
Black crew/knee socks (no skin showing)
Compression sleeves
Gloves
Marching shoes
Hair accessories as needed (see below)
Water jug
Hair Info: Hair must be smooth, off the collar, and able to fit into the shako (hat) for football games. It is a good idea to keep gel, hairspray, bobby pins and hairbands in a bag that comes to every competition/game. More info about how students will be asked to wear their hair for contests will be coming soon. Stay tuned!
The Marching Millers also have a student uniform crew that can help with any uniform questions. Gloves/socks/compression shirts can be purchased the day of if your student forgets theirs.

Volunteer
Reminder that working with students (volunteering, feeding sections during meals, etc….) requires you to have a level 3 background check on file with Noblesville Schools. Link to apply can be found at the top of our volunteer page. The boosters are providing blue and orange lanyards for those who have an approved background check on file. You must wear this lanyard anytime you are volunteering or working with students! Thank you so much to those of you who picked up your lanyards at our parent social! For those who did not, and have an approved background check… your lanyard can be found in the uniform closet (inside gate 30). If you were recently approved, please forward your approval email to volunteers@noblesvilleband.org and we will make you a lanyard! We do not get notifications about new approvals. Approval email will come from: info@safevisitorsolutions.com
**All families are required to volunteer at our Black & Gold contest on September 21st. If you have a conflict that day, you must email volunteers@noblesvilleband.org by August 21st to arrange an alternate option.
MARCHING MILLER SPIRIT!
We have several chances to show your love for the Marching Millers!
SPIRIT WEAR ROUND 2 - LAST CHANCE
Your last chance to purchase spirit wear for the 2024 marching season is NOW! The spirit store is open until midnight on August 27th and spirit wear will be delivered before Black & Gold. Click here to shop! New items added for this round!
VETERAN TIP - Most people wear the show shirt to competitions. We will be a sea of pink in the stands! It's a marching band contest thing., and an easy way for the students to find us in the stands! You will probably want a show shirt if you haven't ordered one yet.
SPIRIT ITEMS
Another fun marching band custom is a spirit item! As the band prepares to enter the field before performing, supporters in the stands wave these and cheer! Come to Contest 101 to learn the chant, and stop by the spirit table in the north lot on Thursday to purchase your spirit items.
