I remember it very vividly, like it was yesterday. The moment "Noblesville" was called as an ISSMA Open Class A 2021 State finalist. The first time in history. I screamed, I cried, I think I blacked out for a few minutes 😂. There is always a little shock factor in the "first ever" achievement. But what I also remember, was what Mr. Thornbury told the band after the announcement.
As we gathered around, the fresh "happy tears" still on our faces, he reminded the kids to look around the parking lot.... many VERY hard working and deserving bands did NOT have their name called that night..
Bands that work just as hard as you do, maybe even harder.
Bands that missed it by the slightest margin.
Bands who's season just ended.
Seniors who just performed for the last time.
Be mindful in how you carry yourself and be a gracious winner in your celebrations.
I feel like this was worth revisiting as this weekend we could find ourselves on either side of this semi-state "bubble". Bands will likely make or miss state by less than a point. Competition in OPEN Class A is beyond fierce. If our name is not called, it isn't because we are not an outstanding band and won't take away the amazing season and journey we've shared! We have an incredible program and making state or not will not take that away. Our goal is always to put our best performance on the field and know that we are better because of the journey.
Now that all of that has been said... "Competitive Amanda 😈" BELIEVES!
I do BELIEVE our name will be called! I do BELIEVE we will be back to back ISSMA OPEN Class A State Finalists... for the first time in program history. I BELIEVE it's going to happen! How bad do our kids want it and how hard are they willing to work this week?!
If you can dream it, you can do it.
Let's GO Millers!!!

I am so grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of this weekend! As much as I want to hear their name called on Saturday (Competitive Amanda 😈), it won't change the fact that these last 4 years have been some of my very favorite memories.
